EXTENDICARE KAPUSKASING – MEDIA UPDATE
We have received the results from our resident testing clinic conducted yesterday. As of 11:00 am on Monday, February 1, Extendicare Kapuskasing has three new resident cases to report. Working with the Porcupine Health Unit, four residents’ cases were declared resolved this morning, meaning they tested positive more than 10 days ago and are no longer infectious. There are now 32 active cases among residents. We continue to have 14 active cases among our care team. All affected staff are isolating at home until cleared by public health to return to work.
All residents continue to isolate in their rooms, where they are being provided with meals and individual care and support. COVID-positive residents continue to be cohorted in an effort to limit virus spread.
The home continues to meet daily with the Porcupine Health Unit, Sensenbrenner Hospital, Ontario Health, our Local Health Integration Network team and the Ministry of Long-Term Care. All parties are working together to protect residents and staff.
ONGOING COLLABORATION WITH HEALTH SYSTEM PARTNERS
We are pleased to share that staff from the Timmins and District Hospital (TADH) are on-site today, assessing how both our organizations can work together. The TADH will be providing additional staff resources with expertise in infection prevention and control and environmental services, bringing a team with years of direct experience managing outbreaks and pandemic response.
The TADH team will be working directly with Extendicare Kapuskasing staff to conduct a thorough infection control assessment and will remain onsite offering additional support as we work together to clear our home of this virus. We are incredibly thankful for this support and look forward to leveraging the experience of Extendicare Kapuskasking staff and the TADH team to support our residents and staff.
Our first priority, as always, is to maintain the health and safety of our residents, staff and caregivers. We will continue to keep in close contact with residents, staff and families.
